Welcome to my homepage. I am an Assistant
Professor in the
Division of English as an International Language at the
University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
(UIUC). My interests include ESL writing,
Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC), and Ethnographic Research.
What I teach
As you can see from the main page, my interests fall under two main
areas: Computer-Mediated Communication and Second Language
Writing I teach a seminar course that
focuses on Computer-Mediated Communication and
Language Learning (EIL 587). The purpose of this course
is to explore how computer networks (e.g. the Internet) can be used in
the language learning process to engage in authentic communication to
enhance that learning. The technologies utilized in this course range
from the most basic (email), to Discussion Boards, MOOs, Blogs, Wikis,
Pod & Vidcasting, Internet
Telephony, and video conferencing. I also teach a course at UIUC
titled
EIL 445: Teaching Second Language Reading and Writing.
Although the majority of the students in this course are MA-level
students studying TESOL, there are also PhD students in Education,
students studying other languages at Graduate level, and undergrads who
take the course.
What I like
Follow the links above to see more about my favorite hobbies:
Reading (shocking for someone who teaches about reading and writing,
eh?) and travel.
